The other day I realized it had been way too long since my friendly tennis ball and I met up for our brief two minute rendezvous. Once we were reunited I thought why have I waited this long?
Besides feeling wonderful, rolling your foot on a tennis ball also works wonders on the back fascial line of the body. Fascia is a band of fibrous connective tissue enveloping, separating, or binding together muscles, organs, and other soft structures of the body (http://www.thefreedictionary.com/fascia). When there is pain, we often assume it is our muscles that are aching, when in fact it is our connective tissue that could benefit from some release.
As you can see in the image below the back fascial line begins at the feet and rises up to through the back of the knees, whole back, neck, all the way to the front of the head. Ever had pain in any of those areas? Well, believe it or not rolling on that little tennis ball for two minutes has the potential to free up tension in all these key regions (especially the back).
So steal a ball from your friendly pet if need be, and notice what shifts in your body after your date, you might just find yourself in foot heaven.
