Coaching 101


Coaching is quickly becoming one of the leading tools that people use to live extraordinary lives. Through weekly coaching sessions, you will identify what is most important to you and align your thoughts, words, and actions to create more possibility. As your coach, I work with you to identify what you desire personally and professionally and then together we formulate ways of achieving a life you really want and love.

This process involves gaining clarity on your values, learning about ways you hold yourself back, and exploring practical consistent actions that create change. Your commitment to your life through coaching offers a means for more balance, joy, intimacy, vitality, financial abundance, focus and clear results in every area of your life.

How Is Coaching Different From Therapy or Hiring a Consultant?
Therapy (which has many benefits) tends to go into more depth about various issues often dealing with the past. Therapy is also more often limited to the realm of talk and working primarily with the mind. Consultants tend to be hired in order to assess a situation and give their clients answers.

Coaching is more action-oriented process which focuses primarily on the present and future. It involves more than just talk, it utilizes various means including the body to gain greater insight. Through coaching you step into a partnership which enables you to see more clearly, source your own answers, and co-create experiments which help generate real neurological shifts in the engrained habits of your mind.

Furthermore, while pop-culture has propagated the myth of habit building in 21 days, the reality is that it takes more like three to six months of consistent action to create lasting shifts in our neurobiology. This is the reason why many work with a coach for several months to receive consistent support. 

Who Works With A Coach?
Executives, business owners, professionals, stay-at-home mamas, young adults or any person in transition and in need of a fresh perspective, guidance, and accountability. Regardless of professional endeavor or current predicament, all of my clients have one thing in common: they are all successful, resourceful and intelligent individuals who want to get even more out of their lives.

What professional athlete hasn’t used a coach to win? Olympians are some of the best athletes and yet they still understand the value that comes from having someone to work directly with them, someone to point out things they can’t see, someone to keep encouraging and challenging them to achieve their greatest potential.

That’s who I am for you! 


How I Coach Clients

As your coach, I will inquire, encourage, reflect, reframe, challenge, make requests, share personal stories, and listen for your truth. This is so you can remain aligned with who you are, your goals, your values and your vision.

My focus will be completely on you and what you want to create in your life; I stand for you first and foremost, not just your goals.

The coaching relationship is designed by both of us, and may be refined through ongoing two-way feedback. Even though I am committed to the journey, you will ultimately be responsible for actions taken (or not taken) throughout the process. 

A few more specifics:

I Expect Your Best
We should only be working together if you are ready to do and be your best. If you are not doing your best, I will ask you to do so. If you cannot be your best at the moment, I will understand and do what I can so that you can be heard, acknowledged and nudged back on your path.

I Make Specific Requests
From time to time, I will make a direct request, such as "Will you accomplish X by the end of the month?” You may accept the request, counter-offer (e.g.: “I can’t do X, but I can do Y”) or decline. I will always support you, whichever way you respond, and we will work together to find what actions you are willing to take to reach your goals.

I May Give Advice
If I am sure of the situation, and you are open to it, I will make specific suggestions on how to handle a problem or go for an opportunity. If I am not sure, I will say so. Regardless, use the best of what I say and use your own judgment.

I Am Direct
When I hear a funny tone in your voice or notice something amiss, I will ask you about it. Often, it is these small moments that offer the chance to resolve something under the surface. This is never a confrontation, instead it is an invitation for you to take a closer look.

I Give Field Work (Homework)
I typically ask you to determine a few goals or actions to focus on between our calls. If I am pushing you too much, say so. If you want to be pushed harder, just ask.

I’m Here for You
I want to hear it all. If you are experiencing challenge, had a huge realization, need to vent, or want to celebrate feel free to email and connect.

Policies & Procedures


Policies & Procedures


Confidentiality:
Our relationship is strictly confidential. I will not be telling anyone that you are my client and I will not reveal the content of our coaching sessions to anyone. This is sacred. You are free to share whatever you choose from our sessions with anyone in your life.

Time:
We will begin and end our sessions on time to honor of our commitment. You will call me (or arrive at my office) at our scheduled time (619-534-3361).

Sessions:
Our agreement includes FOUR initial sessions per month for 60 minutes each. Ideally, we will “lock in” a time that works consistently for both of us or schedule our next session at the end of a session. If you are on vacation, we will spend more time before you leave or after you return. If I am traveling and we have a session, I will let you know in advance and we can make the necessary shifts.

After our first  four sessions we can discuss options such as another four session package, a shift to meeting every two weeks, shorter 30 minute sessions, or a once a month tune-up session (60min), or completion of our work together. 

Changes:
Rescheduling an appointment is easy with advance notice. If you have an emergency, we’ll work around it. If you must cancel a session, I require a 24-hour notice. We will reschedule or weave in extra time in our regular sessions. I will extend to you the same courtesy and give you as much advance notice when I need to shift an appointment time. Missing an appointment without notice is considered a paid appointment.

In-Between Sessions:
If you would like to share any successes or challenges in-between sessions I would love to hear from you!

Completing Coaching:
When you decide it is time to wrap up our coaching relationship, please let me know (either on our call or via email) at least one session before the end of your package (i.e. end of 3rd session). This will give us time to dedicate part of our last call to capture your learning and strategize clear accountable steps for how you want to show up moving forward. *After we complete our work together you can always schedule tune-up sessions without purchasing a full package.  

Truth:
Coaching is a partnership so it is important for you to be able to speak your truth. If I ever say or do something that triggers, activates, upsets you, or simply doesn’t feel right, please bring it to my attention. 

I promise we will work through it together in order to strengthen our relationship and ensure I am showing up for you in the best possible way.
